The Baltimore Blast were a longtime member of the original MISL.
The Baltimore Spirit were founded by software designer Bill Stealey at the end of July 1992 and joined the National Professional Soccer League.
When the team was purchased by Ed Hale, a former owner of the original team, the Spirit were renamed the Blast in 1998 (Hale had the rights to the Blast name, hence the reason why the team had to change its name) and joined the new Major Indoor Soccer League in 2001.

Baltimore completed a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday night, winning 6-2 in front of a 1st Mariner Arena crowd of 9,862 in Game Three of the best-of-five MISL Championship Series.
Baltimore regained the lead at 4:45 of the third quarter, going ahead 3-2 on Kelly’s fourth goal of the postseason.

In the fourth quarter, the Blast put more pressure on the Steamers defense but it proved to be inefficient as the Steamers took Game 2, 4-1 forcing the extra session.
Baltimore only put two shots on goal during the session while St. Louis had three shots, but Millwood took a deflection from Giuliano Celenza and knocked a shot past Phillips's right side, ending the series and the season.
