Baltimore grew swiftly in the mid-late 18th century as the granary for sugar producing colonies in the Caribbean.
Baltimore is also the site of the first architectural monument honoring George Washington, a 178 foot doric column erected in 1829 and designed by Robert Mills, who later designed the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. Baltimore became an independent city in 1851, being detached from Baltimore County at that time.
Baltimore's population peaked at 949,708 in the 1950 Census, which ranked it as the sixth-largest city in the country, behind Detroit and ahead of Cleveland.

Following the 1995 season, the Baltimore Stallions franchise was relocated to Montreal to become the third team to take the Alouettes name.
The Baltimore Football Club was granted an expansion franchise for 1994 by the Canadian Football League.
Stallions owner Jim Speros, realizing that despite the fan loyalty generated by his team that it could not compete with the NFL, decided to move the club.

Situated at 33rd and Ellerslie in the middle of Baltimore, this stadium is famous for it's tailgate parties and high volume fans who supported a hard hitting team.
The Baltimore Colts beat the Dallas Cowboys 16-13 on January 17, 1971 in Super Bowl V in Miami.
Baltimore kicked off into the closed end, and they stopped the Steeler return man at their own 15 yard line which prompted the crowd to make even more noise.

Baltimore was the most succesful of the American teams, setting a record their first season for most wins by a first-year team.
They were eventually succesful in their suit, so Baltimore was known as the Baltimore CFL's for a time.
Speros hoped to enlist the support of local government & business to keep the Stallions in Baltimore, but was unsuccessful and elected to move the team to Montreal (where they became the new Montreal Alouettes), after the CFL decided to disband all the other American teams.

The Baltimore Stallions, who lost the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup Game last year without a moniker, used a pair of huge plays on special teams today to become the first United States team in the league's 106-year history to win the championship, defeating the Calgary Stampeders 37-20 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Baltimore still holds the distinction as the only American city to have won the Grey Cup.
It was for this reason that the Baltimore franchise was spared contraction when the CFL decided that the experiment with American teams was a failure and closed all of the remaining American teams.

Seven football seasons ago, Ann Marie joined the Baltimore Colts Band, the official musical unit for the Baltimore Stallions.
The reason for this is because it was his original baseball nickname, and stuck with him through Band.
Soon enough, DJ and I were one of the few original members left after the Ravens came to Baltimore.
