Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area is the metropolitan area consisting of Washington, DC, Baltimore, Maryland, Northern Virginia, Central Maryland, and two counties in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
It is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the U.S. after New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
This is mostly due to their proximity to the area, the size of their commuter population, and by the influence of local broadcasting stations.

 Bambooweb: Washington DC
Residents of Washington and its surrounding suburbs refer to the city simply as the District or DC, to contrast its greater metropolitan area.
The I-495 Capital Beltway surrounds the Washington area.
Washington is surrounded by the states of Virginia (on its southwest side, and a small part of its northwest one) and Maryland (on its southeast and northeast sides, and most of its northwest one); it interrupts those states' common border, which is the Potomac River both upstream and downstream from the District.

 Talk:Washington, D.C. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
We can find a more appropriate image that depicts the security implications on people in Washington, such as the closing of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House (done in response to the Oklahoma City bombing and not the September 11, 2001 attacks).
The Pentagon is located in Arlington, Virginia and not in Washington.
I also think that too much space is devoted to recent history (2001 - present), in relation to history prior to 2001.

 Bambooweb: Washington DC
I changed "DC" to "Washington" as a reference to the area because as a 10-year resident of the Washington area I have never heard the term "DC" used to refer to anything but the District while "Washington" is often used to refer to the region although "Washington area" is most often used to avoid ambiguity.
First, the city of Washington and its suburbs may be referred to as "the Washington area" but never simply "Washington," and residents simply use "DC" for the metro area in contrast with "the District" for the city of Washington.
I think the aerial view of Washington DC should be the first pic, with the satellite photo in the geography section.

 Coloquio Online
Luis Borunda, president of the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said it’s important to develop the area for economic, historic and aesthetic purposes.
Quietly, a movement is afoot in Baltimore to refurbish a section of South Broadway in Fells Point, unofficially known as “Spanish Town,” into a tourist destination.
The first is expanding the median on Broadway between Fleet and Baltimore streets into a broad, brick-paved promenade with benches, lights and trees, like the one between Fleet and Thames streets.

Lush plantings characterize this area, and in fact all who visit the facility consider it a garden.
Street tree plantings and screen planting buffer areas also tie the campus together and provide for a strong landscape structure to the overall site.
