Ban Chiang is best known for the beautiful pottery the ancient villagers made, but there are many more types of artifacts that came from this interesting site.
At Ban Chiang archaeologists found a fully developed bronze metallurgy, about the same age as the Shang civilization in China, but essentially in a peaceful village context.
The excavations at Ban Chiang were a cooperative effort by the University of Pennsylvania Museum and the Fine Arts Department in Thailand.

The Ban Chiang crucibles are relatively small, approximately 8 to 12 centimeters in diameter and generally no more than 5 centimeters deep.

 Mut Mee - Ban Chiang
Known as the UNESCO World Heritage Archeological Site, the remains at Ban Chiang were first excavated during the 1970's by a team from the University of Pennsylvania and the Fine Arts Department of Thailand.
The sites are clustered around the village of Ban Chiang, 15Km east of Nong Han and about 85 km from Nong Khai.
There is a large well organised national museum which presents some of the finest finds, and shows how theories of the movement and settlement of humans was radically altered by this exciting discovery.
