Iloilo -- A priest of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) was reportedly put under surveillance by four unidentified persons at the height of the rallies commemorating the International Women's Day on March 8, 2006.
Marco Sulayao at the IFI church in Banate, Iloilo reported that on March 9, 2006, at around 3:00 a.m.
Sulayao was not in the rectory as he did not proceed to Banate as he earlier planned to do after the March 8 march-rally in the city of Iloilo.

BANATE, Iloilo -- Warning of serious environmental and health hazards, doctors in Iloilo province have urged the scrapping of a plan to put up a 100-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Banate town, 54 kilometers north of Iloilo City.
Marian Confesor-Celis, president of the Iloilo Medical Society, said they were preparing a position paper on the project based on researches conducted by a committee composed of members coming from various fields of expertise.
The doctors spoke before a forum on Sunday at the Banate multi-purpose gymnasium attended by around 1,000 residents mostly opposed to the project.

MAJORITY of the members of the Iloilo Provincial Board, including, Vice Gov. Roberto Armada, voted Tuesday night to block the entry of the proposed 100-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Banate, Iloilo, ending close to four months of debate on the controversial power project.
The Banate Bay Resource Management Council was formed to address this, resulting in the establishment of a mangrove reservation and a 25-hectare fish sanctuary, the Hibutkan Reef.
Efforts to revive Banate Bay were rewarded by a Galing Pook Award in 1998 as an "oustanding local government innovation" by the Asian Institute of Management and the Local Government Academy.

BANATE, Iloilo -- Hundreds of residents walked out from a public consultation on Saturday as opposition to a plan to put up a 150-million-dollar coal-fired power plant to be operated by Korean Electric Co. (Kepco) here intensified.
The protest action was triggered by the sudden turning off of the microphone while a critic of the project was questioning the procedure of the meeting at the town's multi-purpose gymnasium.
Composed mostly of students of the Banate National High School, the protesters proceeded to the parish church across the gymnasium where speakers took turns lambasting the proceedings.
