 Onesti Entertianment - Gap Band
The early Gap Band was a fairly large band, along the lines of most other 70's funk combos, with a large horn section etc. The music on that first album was written by the Wilson brothers Charlie, Ronnie and Robert.
In the mid-80's, the Wilson brothers lost creative control over the Gap Band's outlet, and were forced to release some stuff that they later claimed was sub-standard, and which they didn't write.
The Gap Band released a new album "Ain't Nothin' But a Party" in 1995, including a new version of "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" and a duet with George Clinton.

The band gap of a semiconductor is important for a number of reasons.
This is because the only available carriers for conduction are the electrons which manage to get enough thermal energy to be excited from the valence band into the conduction band.
In general, a material with a sufficiently large band gap will be an insulator.

In all the spectra a sharp and narrow signal is seen at 3.42 eV marking the excitonic band gap in GaN underneath the ternary layer.
The continuos nature of the signal and additional extrema on the high energy side strongly indicate that this signal are Franz-Keldysh oscillations at the band gap in the presence of a large electric field F [40] [23].
The redshift approximately corresponds to one halfperiod of the Franz-Keldysh oscillation near the band gap.

In 2D PBG materials, the electromagnetic waves propagating into the plane perpendicular to the cylinders can be separated in two polarizations according to whether the electric (E polarization) or magnetic (H polarization) field is parallel to the cylinder axis.
The band gaps occurring in each case must overlap to form an absolute band gap which prevents the propagation of the light of any polarization.

Some R&B lovers think that 1979's self-titled The Gap Band (which contained the hit "Shake") was the combo's first album but, in fact, the Wilson Brothers had recorded two little-known LPs before that.
In 1977, the Gap Band wasn't as Parliament-minded as it would become a few years later -- the funk that dominates this album is actually closer to Sly & the Family Stone, Tower of Power, or Stevie Wonder (who was a major influence on lead singer Charles Wilson).
The Gap Band is far from essential, but from an historic perspective, it's interesting to hear what the group sounded like before Lonnie Simmons came into the picture.
