Bandersnatch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bandersnatch is a fictional creature mentioned in Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky.
The only description given of it is that the hero should "shun the frumious Bandersnatch." Other advice given to the beamish hero proving quite accurate, one must dismiss the possibility that the speaker within the poem was uninformed about the Bandersnatch, which, however, does not actually make an appearance in "Jabberwocky".
Thus it is clear that the Bandersnatch is not of a size or character to be embraced.

Bandersnatch is his 53rd novel about the 87th Precinct.
Bandersnatch draws on ambition, big-time entertainment moguls, the ease of getting phone taps since 9/11, tracing cell phone calls, the enormous advances in forgery thanks to computers, and, of course, crime.

He must be in his 70s but he has a remarkably young attitude, and his description of the pop single "Bandersnatch" by his fictional heroine, Tamar Valparaiso, is totally convincing to the point that you'll believe it could be in heavy rotation on MTV (if they still played videos).
"The Frumious Bandersnatch" gives only desultory service to the 87th Precinct trademark situation of detectives working on separate cases, focusing on a single crime, the kidnapping of a pop singer on the rise, who is adapting Lewis Carroll for the hip-hop generation.
He's hosting the launch of her new CD titled Bandersnatch and the hard sell is being made to attending media and important guests.

Bandersnatch show combines emo, punk rock - The Daily Orange - Pulp
Bandersnatch, the subset of University Union Concerts which focuses on bringing lesser-known musical acts to Syracuse University, created a night of punk/emo rock for about 150 people.
The show, which was put together in a matter of weeks, was the end result of a bumpy road as Bandersnatch members dealt with many different problems in the planning stages; everything from copiers being broken to specific procedures not being followed, said Ryan Raichilson, co-creator of the show and a sophomore management major.
Bandersnatch constantly has to deal with its small budget, which forces it to pick bands only the minority of students has heard of.

I have in the twilight of my middle age grown jaded and cynical, so my initial impression of this new 87th Precinct installment was that it was a short story on steroids, an idea that couldn't carry a novel so was accordingly pumped a bit with filler.
Matters in THE FRUMIOUS BANDERSNATCH kick into high gear soon enough; Valparaiso, in the middle of lip-synching and dancing her way through a reenactment of her controversial new video, is kidnapped in full view of the horrified partygoers.
In the meantime, "Bandersnatch" is flying off the shelves, courtesy of the attendant publicity.

Diving in, you might think "The Frumious Bandersnatch" is one of the 87th's more comic outings, given its goofy name and the focus on the cult of celebrity surrounding this particular case.
The singer is plucked off a yacht by a pair of masked intruders just as she finishes a lip-synched dance routine for a music industry crowd and a local TV news camera team.
But there's not much else to be said for "Bandersnatch." It has a remarkably sour conclusion for the jocular set-ups, as if we aren't expected to care about any of the characters McBain has taken such pains in sketching.

The title of this 87th Precinct episode comes from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass poem Jabberwocky, the one that begins ''Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe' - and verses are delightfully quoted (and misquoted) throughout the mystery by all its players.
It's primarily Steve Carella's case, after Tamar is kidnapped during a rape enactment at her launch party by two men and a woman.
