In the Spring of 1961 Mimmo Dei, the boss of the Scuderia Centro-Sud team, invited Bandini to race an F1 Cooper-Maserati at the non-championship Pau GP.
Bandini won the Le Mans 24 Hours with Lodovico Scarfiotti and then Mimmo Dei revived Scuderia Centro-Sud and bought a BRM and Bandini began racing that at the French GP.
Bandini's greatest day came in 1964 when he won the first Austrian GP on the bumpy Zeltweg aerodrome circuit although there were other important victories for Ferrari in sporstcars, notably the Targa Florio in 1965 and the Daytona 24 Hours in 1967.

From the early 1960's Bandini practically ceased to produce cars for clients but continued to develop and build one-offs for the prototype classes in Italy (exports to the US ceased in 1964).
Through the years Bandini cars were also frequently modified by their owners, and were known to have used both Giannini and Ford Anglia engines as well as having significant changes made to the bodywork.

The sound wasn't great for Bandini - it was too muddled, and it didn't help that with both Simon Phipps and Nick Reavill on vocals, plus the delightful Caroline Giles, the delicate interplay between the instruments and voices was sometimes lost.
