The conference met April 18-April 24, 1955, in Bandung, Indonesia, and was coordinated by Indonesian Foreign Minister Ruslan Abdulgani.
A 10-point "declaration on promotion of world peace and cooperation," incorporating the principles of the United Nations Charter and Jawaharlal Nehru's principles, was adopted unanimously.
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Conference, Heads of State and Government of Asian-African countries attended a new Asian-African Summit from 20-24 April 2005 in Bandung and Jakarta.

It was known that the Bandung Conference paid due attention to the problems of the dependent peoples and colonialism; the Bandung declaration recognized colonialism as an evil and it demanded that all dependent people be granted freedom and independence.

Unlike their founding fathers who initiated the conference in Bandung, 100 km from Jakarta, in 1955 to take a stand against colonialism, the current leaders will trade ideas and initiatives to address myriad problems facing two-thirds of the world's population living in the two continents, ranging from poverty to poor medical care.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and South African leader Thabo Mbeki inked the four-page declaration on the New Asian-African Partnership in Indonesia's Bandung, the historic town where the countries from the two continents got together for the first time in 1955 and subsequently created the Non-Aligned Movement.
In the declaration, the leaders said, "We are determined to prevent conflict and resolve disputes by peaceful means and endeavour to explore innovative mechanisms for confidence-building and dispute resolution as well as for post-conflict peace building.
The partnership will be based on nine principles and ideals, which include collective and united efforts in multilateral fora, protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, promotion of a just, democratic, transparent, accountable and harmonious society and commitment to open dialogue based on mutual respect and benefit.

The Bandung Conference held in 1955 was attended by all the great political stalwarts of newly independent African and Asian countriess.
A landmark of this period was the Joint Declaration made by developing countries at the 18th Session of the General Assembly in New York in November 1963.
This list of issues indicates that the rationale behind the Declaration was to bring about fuller intemational co-operation so that greater progress could be made towards the attainment of 'collective economic security' of the newly independent countries vis-a-vis the developed countries.

The Asian-African Summit to commemorate the golden anniversary of the Bandung Declaration on 23 April adopted the Declaration on the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP).
The Summit climaxed with a visit by the heads of state to the city of Bandung (in West Java) on April 24 to reenact the historic walk of the first generation of Asian and African leaders of the Bandung Conference, from the Savoy Homman Hotel to Gedung Merdeka (the venue of the 1955 Conference).
In their speeches, most of the Asian and African leaders seemed to have a remarkable identity of views, namely, that the Bandung Conference of 1955 was held during the era of colonialism, apartheid and the Cold War, that it played a decisive role in ending colonialism and apartheid.

It asserted the members' resistance to 'external interference in any form or manifestation in order to preserve their national identities.' These words were repeated in 1971 when ASEAN set up the Zone of Peace Freedom and Neutrality, and were taken to mean that foreign military bases should be progressively excluded from the region.

The leaders of 104 Asian and African states have just met in Indonesia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Afro-Asian meeting also held in Indonesia in 1955 and which adopted the Bandung Declaration.
In the 50 years since the first conference great strides have been made by the Afro-Asian countries and they have agreed to “reinvigorate the Spirit of Bandung”.
The conference declared that “we are all independent, sovereign and equal nations striving for the promotion of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law”.
