Six bodies have been found after the disaster Friday night near the remote town of Bangar in La Union, 250 km north of Manila, when fierce winds and swells as high as two-story buildings crashed over the fleet of small wooden vessels.
Bangar was hardest hit, with a dozen of its fishermen missing and feared dead.

The lifeless body of Lito Carribay, a fisherman from Caba, La Union, was found by rescue divers off the coast in Sual, Pangasinan, on Sunday afternoon.

FISHERMEN from the towns of Bolinao and Anda in western Pangasinan rescued Saturday two of the more than 100 fishermen from La Union and Ilocos Sur provinces who were earlier reported missing.
Plucked from the waters off Anda was Romeo Morao, 24, a resident Bangar, La Union and in Bolinao was Wilson Mapuroy, 54, a native of Tayug, Pangasinan but now a resident of Bangar.
A report from the Office of Civil Defense in La Union disclosed that there were still 35 fishermen missing and the Philippine Army and Navy are still conducting search and rescue operations for them.

Bauang, La Union – Five passengers died on the spot while 10 others were injured, most of them seriously, when a 10-wheeler dump struck sideswiped the minibus they were riding in a sharp curve along the national highway in Barangay Quirante of this town at about noon Monday.
Police identified the fatalities as Teresita Abuan Dacanay, 37, of Camp I Rosario, La Union; Marilou Farol, 42, of Parian Este, Bauang; Lily Penera, of 652 De Guzman Street, Central West, Bauang; and Roderick Abuan, 27, of Central East, Bauang.
The injured passengers are now confined at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in the capital city of San Fernando.
