In Bangladesh, the symbol ৳ (or Tk., in English) is used to represent taka; for example, ৳৫০, ৳50 or Tk.
In north India, Taka was a copper coin equal to two paisa and in the south, it was an aggregate of four paisa or one anna.
The 1 and 2 taka notes are issued by the Government of Bangladesh.

DHAKA, May 31: The Bangladesh taka began trading freely for the first time on Saturday and was steady at 58.65 to the dollar early in the session on slack dollar demand as most major international trading centres were closed, dealers said.
Bangladesh’s foreign aid donors have been asking Dhaka to float the currency as part of financial reforms, officials have said.
Economists said the decision to float the taka was timely and necessary to keep pace with neighbouring countries but it needed efficient handling by the central bank.

May 27: The Bangladesh Taka remained under pressure against the dollar in inter-bank foreign exchange market yesterday due to higher dollar buying by importers who fear that the dollar would be strong in the coming days when the government will open Taka as a free floating currency within a couple of days, dealers said.
The government is likely to announce the Taka as a free floating currency which, now pagged with the US dollar and banded by selling buying rates Tk 57.40 and Tk 58.40 to the dollar respectively.
The demand for Taka was also strong from fund managers as some banks faced pressure on their liquidity after higher payments and fund withdrawal.

DHAKA, Feb 2: Bangladesh once again devalued its currency taka against the US dollar by 1.87 per cent or 85 paisa with effect from today - a move aimed at making the country's exports more competitive as well as building up a comfortable level of forex reserve.
This is the 12th downward adjustment of taka over the last one and a half year, since the Awami League government took office in June, 1996.
Bank sources said the taka had been made cheaper against the dollar mainly because of pressure from the burgeoning garments sector and other exporters who last week reiterated their demand for devaluation.

Bangladesh had certainly thrown surprises and problems at us but we were still sad to be leaving.

The country's central bank, the Bangladesh Bank, said on Thursday that the new buying and selling rates effective from Sunday would be taka 48.35 and taka 48.65 respectively to the dollar.
The taka continues to remain "one of the most stable currencies in the region" and the new adjustment was necessary to spur growth of exports while retaining its competitive edge, the bank said.
Money market reports said the taka became firm against the greenback in inter-bank trading on Thursday with adequate supply of dollars in the wake of decreased foodgrain imports.
