	Mapping the Sea Floor, Stellwagen Bank [USGS]
		The sea floor of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary was surveyed by using a multibeam sea-floor mapping system that utilized sound to measure the water depth and sediment characteristics as the ship steamed over the area of interest.
		In deeper water (85-140 m) in the northeastern part of the image, a fine hummocky pattern on the sea floor was created by gouges (5-10 m deep and up to 120 m wide) caused by icebergs that grounded in the muddy sand at the close of the last period of glaciation.

	MARINE GEOLOGY AND BENTHIC HABITAT OF GERMAN BANK, SCOTIAN SHELF, ATLANTIC CANADA
		Four combined geology and biology groundtruthing surveys have collected 2133 km of high-resolution seismic reflection profiles and sidescan sonograms, complemented by 1134 sea floor photographs, 97 sea floor video transects, and 86 sediment and biological samples.

		A large portion of the Dry Tortugas sea floor is composed of sediments (silt, sand, gravel); Davis (1982) estimated that sediments were contributing 10,892 hectares or 47.80% of the benthic habitat in DTNP.
		Tortugas Bank is approximately 7 nmi west of Loggerhead Key; 8 Fathom Rock is located north of Tortugas Bank and approximately 5.5 nmi WNW of Loggerhead Key; and Little Bank is north of 8 Fathom Rock and approximately 6.6 nmi NW of Loggerhead Key.
		Seagrass beds are one of the most common benthic habitats in the Dry Tortugas; they are found in water as deep as 30 m (100 ft) whenever there is sufficient light and unconsolidated sediment to support their root systems.

		The mounds were discovered in 1998 by the Atlantic Frontier Environmental Network (AFEN) while conducting large-scale regional surveys of the sea floor north of Scotland.
