Elephants are one of the major causes of human / animal conflict in the area; this is mainly because the Bannerghatta National Park is a fairly narrow corridor for animals travelling from the huge parks of Bandipur and Nagarhole in the Western Ghats to the large forest areas further north.
At present things are looking a little better as the rainfall is now quite intense, relieving the pressure for a while, although the many water holes in the Bannerghatta National Park still have some way to go before they reach the desired levels.

India’s Project Tiger Director, Rajesh Gopal, has ordered that tourist jeeps in tiger reserves be fitted with protective grills and have sliding windows following an incident in which a tigress leapt into a jeep and injured three French tourists in Bandhavgarh National Park, central India, on 29 March 2003.
Visitors have for years toured wildlife reserves in open vehicles in India, and this is the first reported instance of such an attack in the wild.
