Banyan's strategy, as of July 1992, when it announced its intention to integrate Vines with SCO Unix, is to add services on to Unix platforms rather than try to replace existing platforms with its own.
Vines for Unix is a product family consisting of intelligent messaging, security, network and system management services, tied together with Street-Talk, Banyan's global directory service.
Banyan has said it will support NT as a client later this year but hasn't indicated when or how Vines services could be integrated into NT servers.

VINES network layer addresses are 48-bit entities subdivided into network (32 bits) and subnetwork (16 bits) portions.
The network number identifies a VINES logical network, which is represented as a two-level tree with the root at a service node.
VINES routing tables consist of host/cost pairs, where the host corresponds to a network node that can be reached, and cost corresponds to a delay (expressed in milliseconds) to get to that node.

If you're currently running Banyan's VINES network operating system and want to host some of your user accounts on Windows NT, StreetTalk for Windows NT might be a good fit.
VINES IP is configured through the standard network applet in the Windows control panel, and errors are logged to the NT event viewer, which is nice for remote administration purposes.
Banyan's tech support suspected we'd gotten a corrupted installation file; we suspect the company rushed out Version 1.5 before it had been thoroughly tested.

Banyan Systems, Inc. last week announced that it will begin offering a new TCP/IP stack and application suite designed to make it easier for the company's customers to run TCP/IP across their VINES and ENS networks.
