The discoverer of the Banyoles jaw, Pere Alsius Torrent (1839-1915), a chemist, was an important personality of the Banyoles of the end of the XIX century and of the Catalonia of the Revival Movement of that period.
They are remains of deers, horses, donkeys, wild bulls and feathers of bid birds(the grey heron or similar ones).Equally, fossilised prints of leaves of trees such as the oak trees, the plane tree, the mample tree, the alder, etc. have survived.
Animals and plants that died on the shore of the lake were dragged by water to this spot, where they were slowly recovered by travertine capes, formed by the accumulation of line carried by the water until they became fossils.

It was my first training camp away with the Club to Banyoles due to my being based at Dorney during the last three years with the GB lightweight squad.
It was a stroke of luck that Rob and Filipe set off when they did because the severe weather conditions in France closed off the main roads and they would have been stranded.
Most days we had three sessions, two on the water, one being a work session and the other a team session and the third a weights session.

I did not go to either Besalu or Banyoles, but you can easily take a train to Montserrat, which is about 1.5 hours away.
Banyoles is not far from Besalu and the most interesting think of that town is its lake.
If you want to visit that area (near there are other interesting villages like Santa Pau or Castellfollit de la Roca) I suggest you to rent a car.

 World Rowing Championships 2004 Banyoles Spain
On July 22nd we will leave for Banyoles Spain where the 2004 World Rowing Championships (as well as the Junior Worlds) will be taking place, Tryout camp for the fixed seat boats were held at the same time in Long Beach CA.
We got to explore the town of Banyoles near the race course on Saturday, finding a local grocery store so we could stock up on some extra snacks for the room.
First the fours went off, and Great Britian came in first.(check results on the Banyoles web site), then the doubles race where Scott and Angela for a 3rd year held the title, and retained their gold, the only gold medal for the US team in 2004.

The brothers displayed the body in their shop in Paris as the 'Bechuana", that is a Tswana person from the region of South Africa/Botswana, until the body was purchased by a Spanish naturalist by the name of Frencesc Darder, who exhibited the native at the 1888 Barcelona World Exhibition.
Upon Darders death, the body along with the rest of his natural history collection went to a new museum named after the Spanish collector in Banyoles.
After much resistance from the Franscesc Darder Museum of Natural History in Banyoles Spain, the body of El Negro was finally repatriated back to Africa and re-buried in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana on October 5,2000.
