		Since one of the distinctives of the Baptist denomination is the idea of the priesthood of the believer, Baptists reject the concept that there is authority flowing down from previous church leaders which can be traced to the apostles in apostolic succession.
		Baptist churches are not under the direct administrative control of any other body, such as a national council or a leader such as a bishop or pope.
		Baptists have played an important role in the struggle for freedom of religion in England, the United States, and other countries, including many who were imprisoned and even died for their faith.

	Current Students (The Canadian Baptist Archives) - McMaster Divinity College
		Baptists in Ontario and Quebec established an historical collection in 1865 when the Canadian Baptist Historical Society was founded.
		The mandate for the present collection of the Canadian Baptist Archives is derived directly from the constitution of that early attempt to preserve the history and the records of Canadian Baptists.
		Currently, the collection is supervised by the Director of the Canadian Baptist Archives as an employee of the Divinity College, and staffed with a part-time archivist and student assistants.
