Greater St. Stephen Baptist Church - About - What is Baptism?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Whoever baptizes should pour water on the head of the person to be baptized, and say, while pouring the water: I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Baptism of water is that which is given by pouring water on the head of the person to be baptized, and saying at the same time, I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
They are martyrs then and are baptized in their own blood; although, as we said above, blood would not do for an ordinary Baptism even when we could not get water; so that if a person drew blood from his own body and asked to be baptized with it, the Baptism would not be valid.

 Church baptizes inmates - 12/27/04
Between 15 and 25 inmates are baptized at the monthly service, separated by gender.
Some inmates are "in-filled" with the Holy Ghost, the spirit of God flooding their soul, said Gary Newton, South Flint's jail ministry coordinator.
The baptisms are meant to "cleanse" convicts of their sins and offer salvation and a new beginning, but the long-term results of the apostolic Pentecostal church's jail outreach are never certain.

They said they were baptized every year, as their 91-year-old father had been for years, not just in New York but in each of the 13 states that participate in the House of Prayer annual convocations.
It is reassuring, I suppose, that the majority of the baptisms in this church are done by submersion, which is the undeniable Bible pattern.
The story of the Ethiopian nobleman being baptized by Philip in Acts 8:36-39, where we are told specifically that both men went down into the water and that both came up out of the water, would seem to make any other explanation for the Bible term "baptism" groundless.

If these were baptized in the name of the Trinity, they must not be rebaptized." But if the form of the Church be not observed, the sacrament of Baptism is not conferred.
So that two unbaptized persons may baptize one another, one baptizing the other and being afterwards baptized by him: and each would receive not only the sacrament but also the reality of the sacrament.
But if this were done outside a case of urgency, each would sin grievously, both the baptizer and the baptized, and thus the baptismal effect would be frustrated, although the sacrament itself would not be invalidated.

Why Does God Baptize His People in the Holy Spirit?
One of the most important reasons why God baptizes His people in the Holy Spirit is the fact He has entrusted His people with an enormous task: to spread the good news of salvation through His Son Jesus.
In the Old Testament, God used prophets when He wanted to convey messages to His creation, but this new task could not be accomplished by the old system of prophets because of its inadequacies.
Being baptized in the God’s Spirit and living a life filled with the Spirit is God’s provision for this task.
