Baranya county lies in southern (A republic in central Europe) Hungary, on the border with (A republic in the western Balkans in south-central Europe in the eastern Adriatic coastal area; formerly part of the Habsburg monarchy and Yugoslavia; became independent in 1991) Croatia.

Pécs Public Library which is the legal predecessor of Baranya County Library was formed in a historic building is style of the age of Louis XIV in France on the lst of October in 1943 which is situated in the downtown.
Baranya County Library was formed in 1952 by the fusion of P´cs City Library and Pécs Regional Library the latter exising only for some years was created to organize the libraries in the county.
The local government supporting libraries in Baranya chose the county library to be the professional and methodological center.
