It came close to qualifying for the 2005 Gold Cup as it hosted the Digicel Cup finals for the Caribbean that acted as Gold Cup qualifiers, but finished fourth of the four teams.
It has never qualified for a major international tournament.
In 2001, it suprised many by making the semifinal round of the 2002 World Cup Qualifers.

Sobers captained the West Indies cricket team for 39 matches between 1965 and 1972, the Barbados team in 1966 and 1967, Nottinghamshire from 1968-1971 and the Rest of the World for two tours - one of England and the other of Australia.
He richly deserved the engraving of his picture on a Barbados Independence Postage Stamp in 1966, the knighthood which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II saw fit to bestow upon him in 1975 and the placing of his name on the Players' Pavilion at Kensington Oval.

The CFU XXXVIII Congress, which was recently held in Barbados and hosted by the BFA was praised by all those who attended for the quality of its organization.  The Congress which was held at the Diners Club and Conference Centre was addressed by the President of CFU and BFA President.
The first five games will determine if these two teams have what it takes to participate in this fiercely competitive Division, which has been ruled by the Claytons' Cola Tonic Notre Dame FC for the past 8 years.

A release from the JFF office in Kingston said Linnel McLean, Jamaica's head of delegation in Barbados, and other members of the Jamaican delegation, had confirmed that a CD with four versions of the National Anthem was handed to the organisers, "who apparently mislaid same".
The CD which was presented on Sunday under the jacketed title "National Anthem of Jamaica" is in the possession of the CFU and has not been used since Sunday the 20th.
