Melchiori, Grant Allen   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Barbara Arnett Melchiori’s Grant Allen: The Downward Path Which Leads to Fiction (Roma: Bulzoni Editore, 2000) is the first full-length study of Grant Allen (1848-1899), Canadian-born writer and evolutionary naturalist, to be published since his friend, Edward Clodd’s biography Grant Allen: A Memoir (1900).
Barbara Arnett Melchiori’s book demonstrates that a critical reassessment of Allen’s work is warranted for the way in which it contributes to an understanding of the cultural politics and popular fiction of the literary market in the late nineteenth century.
Arnett Melchiori addresses Allen’s engagement with questions of social and political reform in both fiction and journalism and attempts to bring him closer to our own fin de siècle.
