Barbara Payton (November 16, 1927-May 8, 1967) in Cloquet, Minnesota (also the birthplace of Oscar winning actress Jessica Lange), Barbara Payton headed for Hollywood in search of a career in movies at the age of nineteen in 1948.
Payton admitted to being forced to sleep on bus benches and was often beaten as a prostitute.
Payton at the age of 35 after being arrested for being drunk in public

I too remember Barbara Payton when I was a young teenager.
O'Dowds book, and though Barbara Paytons name was familiar to me, I had no clue about her story.
They persecuted her then for things that go on now in Hollywood on a daily basis..My mother used to have a saying, "Whom the gods will destroy, they will first make beautiful." And in Barbara's case that is so.

But when the dust settles, this is not much more than a vaguely supernatural jungle-gets-revenge flick featuring a hulking Raymond Burr wooing 1950s sexpot Barbara Payton deep in the South American jungle.
