		Born Marion Pepper in New York City, she changed her name to Barbara at age sixteen and went on to join the Ziegfeld Follies of 1931-32.
		She was replaced in the role by actress Fran Ryan at the start of the 1969 season, and Pepper died July 18, 1969, at the age of only 57.
