The quote interests me because it's completely at odds with what I would assume would be the ordinary Muslim view of the Islamic conquest of Constantinople: namely, that the folks at the gates were not "barbarians," but legitimate inheritors of the universal monarchy of Rome.
I think it refers to this, since it was the FIRST sack, and the Europeans would have been viewed as Barbarians at this time.
