The Ticto Barb, Two Spot Barb, or Tic-Tac-Toe Barb (Barbusticto) is a freshwater and brackish tropical fish belonging to the Barb family (Cyprinidae).
Ticto Barbs natively live in a subtropical environment and prefer water with a 6.0 - 7.0 pH, a water hardness of 4 - 10 dGH, and a temperature range of 57 - 71 °F; (14 - 22 °C;).
Ticto Barbs are egg-layers that spawn among a course gravel bed.
Barbus is also known as Puntius in some other taxonomic schemes.
The name comes from the fact that most of the members of the Barbus genus have a pair of barbels on their mouths which they sometimes use to search for food at the bottom of the water.

The Ticto Barb, also known as the Two Spot Barb, or Tic-Tac-Toe Barb is golden/silver with a fl spot just before the pectoral fin, and a second spot back towards the tail.
The Ticto Barb is a schooling fish and enjoys being in numbers.
The Ticto Barb needs to be fed a variety of foods including vegetables as well as meaty foods.
The first part, beginning with a capital letter, is called the generic name, and indicates the group to which the species belongs; the second part, always beginning with a small letter, is the trivial name, indicating the particular species.
Thus we may have the names Barbusticto, Barbus tetrazona, and Barbus titteya; the fact that the first part of the name is the same in each case shows that these fishes are related to one another, belonging to the genus Barbus.
By this method scientists arrange that each plant or animal has a double-barrelled name by which it is distinguished from all others and recognizable by scientists of all countries.
But, please note the following correction pointed out by Liisa Sarakontu: Puntius tico (Barbus tico) is the Two Spot or Tico Barb, not the Rosy Barb, as I wrote.
(Barbus conchonius is the Rosy Barb.) TICTO, Neil, I said it was TiCto!
Anyway for the FAQ version: The native fish used in India's Simazine study is BarbusTicto (Two Spot Barb).
I followed the same procedure with Odessa barbs (Barbusticto) and the beautiful, but very shy, Barbus barilioides which I obtained from everybody’s mentor Rosario Lacorte.
The male odessa barbs developed a striking neon red line down their flanks and the females were noticeably fatter with eggs.
Six very striking Barbus rhombocellatus never made it out of their quarantine tank, lasting less than a week.

One of my favorite fish in the whole world is Barbus Tetrazona Tetrazone, better known as the tiger barb or Sumatran barba.
The tiger barb, like all Barbus species, are schooling fish and feel must at home in large schools.
Other "cool tropical" community fish are: the Lemon Barb, which adapts to much the same conditions as goldfish, the Ticto Barb, an old favorite, and the Rosy Barb which is slightly less low temperature tolerant than the preceding two.

They were labelled as Barbus Khalakudiensis but searching for that name has given me nothing unfortunately..
They are silvery gold in colour with a fl spot near the tail, level with the anal fin.
