By 1817 Forrest discovered that Bargeddie House was in the hands of Mr Wark who had replaced the runrig pattern with a modern large field pattern.
Coals from Bargeddie and Langmuir were transported by rail to the Monkland Canal at Cuilhill Gullet for onward shipment to Glasgow.
The population of Bargeddie in 1981 was 2,624.

Located north east of the junction of the M73 and M8 motorways, Bargeddie is a small town of North Lanarkshire.
Situated 2 miles (3 km) west of Coatbridge town centre, Bargeddie grew, along with neighbouring Cuilhill and Drumpark in association with the mining of coal.
In the late 1940s a major housing estate was created to accommodate an influx of inhabitants from Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

Discussions continue on the remaining proposed joint campus primary school projects in Bargeddie and Chapelhall, and it is hoped agreement will be reached soon on these two projects.
As a result of the first agreement, the Diocese of Motherwell has now withdrawn the petition it presented to the Court of Session seeking judicial review of the Scottish Ministers' decision that ministerial consent was not required for the joint campus proposals.
I believe the facilities proposed by the council will allow such communities to develop and grow in the future and I commend the plans to the parents and pupils in the parishes concerned.

Agreement has been reached on the design of the joint campus primary schools in Bargeddie, North Lanarkshire Council and the Diocese of Motherwell announced today.
This is one of seven joint campus schools planned in North Lanarkshire under the council‚s £150 million Education 2010 Public Private Partnership (PPP) project.
An Advanced Works Agreement was signed by the council and its private sector partner Balfour Beatty to allow work to begin on this multi million pound project that will modernise school facilities across North Lanarkshire over the next six years.
