 Bargello
The Bargello, also known as the Bargello Palace or Palazzo del Popolo (Palace of the People) is a former barracks and prison, now an art museum, in Florence, Italy.
The Bargello palace was built to house first the Capitano del Popolo and later, in 1261, the Podestà, the highest magistrate of the Florence City Council, Italy.
In 1574, the Medici dispensed with the function of the Podestà and housed the bargello, the police chief of Florence, in this building, hence its name. It was employed as a prison; executions took place in the Bargello’s yard until they were abolished by Grand Duke Peter Leopold in 1786.

For those of you who are wondering about "bargello" (originally a needlework and quilting pattern) done in clay, there are two basic ways to do it, though they start out similarly.
Instead of taking slices from the end of the stack as one would with a regular cane and then using them in a project as a slice of stripes, thicker slices are cut from the stack (usually on the side just so there's a bigger area).
Then, diffferent from making a complete bargello pattern cane, that large thick slice is then cut (across the stripes) into a number of thin strips, each showing a short "row" of each color in the stack.

We know scissors were included in sewing baskets, but there is no sign, to my knowledge, of covers specifically for snips (so defined as being able to only hold one finger in each opening) or shears (defined as holding more than one finger in at least one opening).
In the 1700's there are needlework boxes which have a specific section for the snips, but no separate covers.
In the 1800's we begin to see rectangular covers for scissors in both embroidered paper and cloth.
