Gija-Chosun gave rise to the history of Koguryo, and Barhae ¡°marks the beginning of China's northeast history on the Korean Peninsula.¡± The academy seems to be claiming pre-emptive rights to North Korea by asserting that ancient China's territories "extended to the Han River valley on the Korean Peninsula."
The CASS also asserts that the 668 A.D. attack by the Shilla-Tang allied forces on Koguryo was "a unification war in which Tang conquered Koguryo." The logic is the same as the Northeast Project¡¯s, which described Koguryo as a provincial Tang government in 2004.
CASS says Barhae ¡°was not an independent country but a local government under control of the Tang Dynasty¡± and is ¡°inseparable from Chinese history.¡± In 1980, when it tried to co-opt annexed Tibet and the Uyghur region into its history, China also said they were ¡°inseparable¡± from it.

Barhae Commandery (渤海郡) is the former State of Koguryo (舊高麗國).
In 759, which was probably the fourth or fifth visit by Barhae to Japan, the New King, 大欽茂 grandson of Joyong identified himself as King of Koguryo (高麗國王).
Because when some Barhae missions drifted to Japan, they were mistaken for Silla (新羅) people, which shows that they were using Koguryo (高句麗) language which is a dialect of Silla-Korean language.

Also, Barhae used the same architectural style as Koguryo, but despite proof provided by archeological findings, the Chinese government is rebuilding the Barhae royal palace in Tang China architecture.
Also, there is a theory that Barhae fell due to a volcanic eruption, based on the evidence that a large eruption occured before Barhae fell.
It quite funny that we're arguing on whether Barhae was really a part of Korean history, while the major debates in the academic fields is on whether Barhae consisted of majority of Koguryo descendents, that the Manchus were a minority rather than being a 60% majority.

In 668AD, Shilla united Korea, but 40 years later the Korean empire of Barhae is found on the land that used to be Koguryo.
Therefore all of Korea was not actually united until the 10th century, when Barhae was conquered by Jurchens and Koryo replaced Shilla and annexed Tamla(Jeju island).
So, in the 10th century Korea was really one country for the first time, and all the regions started to use a single language.

It comes from the Jurchen word jusen, the original meaning of which is unclear — possibly a cognate of Joseon, which successively designated several states or cultures on the Korean Peninsula, but this still remains highly speculative.
The 11th century Jurchen tribes of northern Manchuria descended from the Tungusic Mohe, or Malgal tribes who were subjects of the ethnically Goguryeo Bohai / Barhae state during the Tang era.
By the 11th century, the Jurchens were originally vassals of the Khitan (see also Liao Dynasty).
