Serbia Info News / Milena Pavlovic Barili - A poet of painting
Chimera of a painter and poet Milena Pavlovic Barili (1909 - 1945) is once more revealing this artist as an unique person in our history of modern art, about which we discover the unknown details and, as a revelation, learn about her acts from a different angle, under a different light.
Original and self-conscious, Milena Pavlovic Barili is a visionary, a poet of contradiction, contrariety and syncretism.
As her verses say: "…in a corner of a cloud/her obscure sadness sleeps…"; she intuitively stresses that the only origins of her painting are in myths, fairy tales and stories told in the middle of Paris, New York, Washington, California, London and Rome.

Creative Loafing - Creative Loafing Atlanta: Vibes: Live Reviews: Barili's legacy
Fittingly, the competition was created in memory of Alfredo Barili, who almost single-handedly created Atlanta's music scene in the 1880s.
The son of musical parents from Italy (his father, Luigi Barili, was the favorite baritone of Verdi, who wrote the role of "Rigoletto" for him), Barili came to a war-devastated Atlanta in 1880, and by 1883 had created the Atlanta Music Festival and opened the Barili School of Music.
In 1935, Barili was hit and killed by a city bus while walking downtown -- an ominous metaphor for the shaky fate of Atlanta's classical music scene in years to come.
