  The Fender Bass VI
Danko with Fender Bass VI The Fender Bass VI is sometimes referred to as a baritone guitar and sometimes as a six string bass guitar.
In the February 1989 issue of Guitar Player it is claimed that Leo Fender intended the Bass VI to be a bass and, with its extended upper range, a baritone guitar as well.
The regular six-string guitar, for example, is usually said to have the baritone voice among the plucked strings, so to speak of a "baritone guitar" is, in one sense, a redundancy.

 Mustapick Deep Baritone Guitar
The guitar plays like butter and has a punchy sound that is nothing short of phenomenal.
The Deep Baritone can be tuned anywhere from a fourth lower from B to B, or a fifth lower from A to A, with either standard tuning intervals between strings, or in accord with any alternative tunings you may be familiar with brought down into the baritone range.
While the baritone's deep resonance sounds fantastic when strummed with the open chords all guitarists are familiar with, it opens up new challenges for more sophisticated players, inviting them to rethink their playing, and to discover new voicings and approaches for a new frequency register.

A few years ago the 7-string guitar, popularized by Korn and Limp Bizkit, fit this request but it had such an obvious sound that it is almost impossible to strike a chord and not be a carbon copy of those bands unless you can play like Dream Theater’s John Pettrucci.
Baritone is usually defined as a male voice in the range between tenor and bass.
One of the most noteworthy showcases of the baritone guitar sound is heard on The Cure’s classic 1989 album, Disintegration, on which an electric guitar only plays the off-beat chords, while the melodies are played by Robert Smith on a Fender Bass VI baritone guitar.

Baritone guitar It was actually the Danelectro Company that first introduced the Baritone Guitar to the music world in the late 1950’s.
The Baritone Guitar was not a big hit with the general public, or with the average guitar player.
Using a regular guitar to tune lower requires loosening the strings, which can cause them to rattle against the frets and also to produce a less powerful tone that is often less defined in pitch.

 TVR Baritone
The concept of the baritone guitar has been around for a while and has recently had a bit of a revival both with acoustic and electric guitars.
If you tuned a regular acoustic guitar down this low the chances are that the strings would be so slack that it would be unplayable and, at that tension, the tone would be dreadful as the top would not work correctly.
Initially it sounds strange as it is so much deeper than a regular guitar but very soon you get to appreciate the wonderful resonances, richness, and overtones that this tuning produces and you find yourself doing things that don't occur to you on a regular tuning, and particularly for me, simple chord sequences become mesmeric.

Most afficionados of the baritone tune it to B E A D F# B. Other tunings exist too, notably C#-F#-B-E-G#-C# (a tone and a half below standard), which can also be achieved on a standard-scale guitar with heavier gauge strings.
This tuning condemns the baritone player to play in 3 more flats, or 3 less sharps than the other guitars in the ensemble, something which sends shivers down the spine of most novice and intermediate players.

On both guitars, the thickness at the 1st Fret is 0.818, and it is 0.963 at the 12th Fret, and both guitars have a rounded 1959 Les Paul neck profile.
A typical Les Paul Studio guitar is shipped from the factory with strings that range from.010 for the High E, to.046 for the Low E. A Les Paul Studio Baritone however is shipped with strings that range from a.012 for the 1st string to.052 for the 6th string.
Because a Baritone guitar straddles the fence between a standard guitar and a bass guitar, one could potentially consider playing this instrument through a bass amp or a guitar amp, depending on the type of sound one is interested in achieving.

For Classical Baritone Guitar (in A) It's possible to use the same "dodge" as hago do for their B-Bass, combining a single string for the deepest notes, and a conventional set (minus the top string) for the remaining strings, so that each conventional string is one higher that on the classical.
The extra whole tone depth to the baritone would make the strings a little slack compared to our bass, but using a D'Addario NYL 056 and a set of EJ44 extra hards would be an economical way forward.
For Steel-Strung Baritone Guitar (in B) As with conventional steel-strung guitars, the acoustic has a heavier gauge of string than the electric, with acoustic sets ranging from a 13 thou top to a 16 thou, broadly corresponding to a 10 thou to 13 thou top string on a conventional acoustic guitar.

In the SCGC baritone's defense, this came as no surprise, since I had the baritone tuned in ways for which it was never designed, using strings for which it had never been voiced.
All my SCGC guitars have cutaways, of which I make extensive use, but due to the lack of the upper register on the mahogany baritone, I had previously thought that a cutaway would be of little use.
Since the new baritone was going to be pitched so much lower than a standard baritone, the string gauges had to be heavier, and the scale length had to be longer.

Normally, a solid body guitar such as a Gibson Les Paul or even a lighter weight Fender Telecaster or Stratocaster is cut from a solid or laminated slab of hardwood such as maple, ash, birch, or mahogany.

Despite the guitars unusual outer form, the materials used in construction are utterly conventional – mahogany for the neck, back and sides, rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge and solid North American spruce for the top.
Just as with the 'standard' guitar which has only gradually acquired a recognised 'standard ' tuning and still varies in scale length, there is no fixed definition of what makes a guitar a baritone in terms of pitch or scale length.
Baritone guitars are generally thought of as not being bass guitars, although there are a few bass instruments such as the Danelectro six string bass (since re-named as a baritone) and the Fender VI which could be accused of really being baritone guitars.
