		Mountain Province is a landlocked province of the Philippines in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon.
		Mountain Province was also the name of the historical province that included most of the current Cordillera provinces.
		This old province was established by the Americans in 1908 and was later split in 1966 into Mountain Province, Benguet, Kalinga-Apayao and Ifugao.

		It was attended by tribal and religious leaders from Bontoc, Sagada, Sadanga and Barlig towns which were targeted for military operations in retaliation for the killing of eight soldiers by NPA rebels in the province since July.

		MAYOR Crispin Arazon Fias-ilon of Barlig, Mountain Province, who was nabbed by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in an entrapment operation last June 16, was released from the Baguio City Jail late Monday afternoon reportedly upon the request of Mountain Province Representative Victor Dominguez and Baguio City Councilor Faustino Olowan.
		Jail officer Lazaro Lilem said no bail was recommended or posted by Fias-ilon for his provisional liberty on charges of robbery-extortion but City Prosecutor Benedicto Carantes said since the mayor did not sign any waiver of detention, he had no other recourse except to allow his release.
