Born in Germany, Barnack was the designer of the first 35mm.
One of those who took advantage of this versatility was Erich Salomon, famous for his candid pictures of celebrities, often taken in situations where cameras were not permitted.
Barnack was also partly responsible for the development of the Leitz Elmar lens.

Arising from the rubble of a mediaeval quarry, Barnack Hills and Holes is one of Britain’s most important wildlife sites, its grassy slopes home to a profusion of wild flowers.
The reserve is situated in the village of Barnack, 11 km north west of Peterborough.
Barnack’s rich flora supports a wide variety of wildlife, especially insects, and a number of nationally scarce species are found.

Barnack is a program that provides an interactive platform for learning about the intrinsic camera parameters and their effect on the depth of field, the hyperfocal distance, field of view, et cetera.
Oscar Barnack (1879-1936) designed the first camera using the 24x36 mm format for German microscope manufacturer Leitz in 1913.
Barnack's older brother is Porta; a photo album generator named after Giambattista della Porta.

Remember that Barnack and Berek in their days considered that one MP on the 24 x 36mm sized negative could compete with the much bigger negative sizes of conventional cameras.
In the Barnack period the small size of the negative was seen as a problem and as was the need for new optical designs.
Barnack was right against all odds 100 years ago.

From early english records [1386-1486] it can be seen that the Semark and Vincent families had a dispute over the Manor of Barnack, Northamptonshire “John Cory and Agnes, his wife, daughter of Richard, son of John Vyncent and Margaret, his wife v Thomas Semark, esquire, feoffee to uses : Manor of Barnack: Northampton”.
Bernack was sold by the Vincent family to Lord Burghley, a Semark descendant, likely prior to 1598 [year Baron Burghley died].
Katherine Semark married Robert Vincent of Barnack in 1455.
