I drove up to the first regional heat at Barnsley College to kick the competition off and assist David Potts (Barnsley College Competition Co-ordinator) with the marking.
Standards were again high, not quite as high as at Barnsley, many students losing marks by not following a good sequence when glossing the door, or by not pasting adequately.
Loraine Birt (Reading College Competition Co-ordinator) helped me with the marking and we spent a long time discussing and agreeing the merits of each of the Trainees.

Six Trainees attended the Northern Heat of the Painting and Decorating Association Apprentice/Trainee Award competition on Friday 23rd April 2004 at Barnsley College.
David Potts organised the event at Barnsley College and he and other staff had worked hard to prepare the working areas for the competition.
Only 3 Trainees (from the 6 that were expected) attended the Southern Heat of the competition at Reading College on Saturday the 24th April 2004.
