 Beers: Acheson p. 129
John Acheson came to America before the close of the Revolutionary war, and commenced trading; was also employed by the United States Government to furnish the National troops with supplies during the Indian wars.
Acheson was a man of ardent and sincere attachments, and where personal effort or labor were needed he never faltered or shrunk by reason of apparent difficulty or threatened danger, ever ready and willing to serve his friends at whatever responsibility or personal risk by day or night, at home or abroad."
Acheson has been a Republican, and during the war of the Rebellion the family were all Union men, some of them serving in the army.

When Bowen makes it clear that he has no intention of tolerating a rival baron, Acheson switches tactics and begins a cynical program of racial fear-mongering to ignite white flight, creating bargains in town and windfalls in the county.
Acheson knows the secret to real estate value is location, location, location, but the same thing might be said of the heart, and he never seems to appreciate the emotional distance between him and his son.

One isolated 'stray' from the two main blocks of the archive, D/385, a map of the estate and demesne at Markethill in 1754, does however contain a sketch of the Acheson house which Swift visited and knew, and which (after extensive re-modelling in the mid-1780s) was destroyed by fire in c.1805.
The Acheson estate consisted originally of all or part of the manors of Baleek, Coolmalish [alias Clancairney?] and Drumorgan, Co. Armagh, mainly in the Markethill and Hamiltons Bawn areas of the county.

Present at the Solution - Who says the Clinton folks lack a foreign policy? Here it is. By Martin Walker
Their model is that great post-1945 generation of Americans who launched the Marshall Plan and NATO, who were, in plan architect Dean Acheson's words, "present at the creation" of a new era.
The Clintonites aspire, if not to a new Creation, then to be Present at the Solution; to go down in history as the wise men and women who resolved the outstanding difficulties of the post-Cold War era and launched the world on a new Millennium of peace and goodwill.
