His son, William, a Shropshire baron, held the castle of Montgomery, as heir by his mother of Baldwin de Buslers, or Boilers, to whom Henry I. had given it with his niece Sibil de Falaise.
He was summoned as a baron on the 6th of February 1298/9, and in 1300 he displayed his banner before the castle of Caerlaverock.
The effigy of this grandaughter of John of Gaunt, with the shields of Courtenay and Beaufort above it, is in Colyton church.

A second brass represents a woman kneeling with hands clasped in prayer and wearing a wimple, this was probably Elizabeth wife of Lewis Fortescue, Baron of the Exchequer in the reign of Henry VIII [1509-1547].
There is a stone monument with two figures kneeling on cushions on either side of a low pedestal which supports a shield.

The pantomime "Cinderella" performed by the Colyton Theatre Group was a success, but in spite of rather than because of its script and lyrics, both of which I thought were mediocre.
The script was not particularly amusing and the musical score, apart from lacking in appeal, was pitched rather on the high side, leaving the players struggling to make the most of the material available.
Wearing outrageous costumes (especially one of the hats) they fell about with great gusto in their slapstick routines, spoke clearly and certainly got the laughs, although one could not help feeling sorry for their long suffering father, Baron Hardup (Chris Way).
