Denham arrived in the Lords 52 years ago, after the death of his father, the Tory MP George Bowyer, who became the first Baron Denham.
I ask Denham if he plans to hit the club circuit, but he smoothes his silk tie and stifles a splutter, and says he wouldn't dream of performing live, which is just as well since it would be tragic to see such a genial man get splattered.

He was the son of Anthony Eden, for whom the Earldom of Avon was created in 1961 as a reward for his work in hastening the dismemberment of the British Empire and the reduction of once Great Britain to the Little Britain of today.
The death of Anthony Eden's son was immediately caused, according to the death certificate, by meningoencephalitis, a deadly inflammation of the brain that often follows Acquired Immunity Deficiency, and it was finally admitted that his death was really the result of that deficiency (see the Sunday edition of the (London) MAIL, 25 August 1985).
Baron Denham, who succeeded the Earl of Avon as Maggie Thatcher's spokesman in the House of Lords, told the press, when the real cause of death became known, that the deceased Earl had "a great number of friends who would be very upset." No wonder!

For her Junior Seminar in History– Denham is a double History and Government major–she considered writing her paper on “Japan and the Olympics Movement.” Denham’s primary historical interest, however, is American history and as such she chose to write her junior seminar paper on an American history topic.
Denham’s appointment to study in Strasbourg was instrumental in her decision to pursue the topic of Japan and the Olympics Movement because while in Europe she would have the opportunity to visit the Olympics Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.
According to Denham, “the idealism is still there in the popular conception” of the Games, but in reality there is a shift from idealism to economic and political concerns.

Countess Dracula - Ingrid Pitt, Nigel Green, Sandor Elès, Maurice Denham - 1970
This middling Hammer entry includes several good cast members, with lovely Polish actress Ingrid Pitt in the title role (even though that's not the character's name), and veteran character actor Nigel Green (who played a crusty Hercules in "Jason and the Argonauts") as her longtime lover and chief thug.
Director Peter Sasdy may have let the brilliant Ingrid Pitt run a little wilder amongst the drab sets with the roles of Bathory young and old, but her joy at hamming it up helps place this as one of the better later Hammer productions.
Shocking, poetic, well-done story loosely based on the legend of Countess Bathory of Hungary who, it is said, bathed in the blood of young virginal women for the purposes of rejuvenating her skin.
