Topic: Baron Forres

Scottish feudal baronies (feudal barons, feudal baron) including the oath of a knight   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
Earls and barons normally granted part of their lands, or sub-feued, to others, that is knights, to be held of them by knight's service, one or more knights' fees or even a fraction of a knight's fee; they would retain part of their land as 'demesne', a sort of 'home farm' if you like.
The baron court is therefore probably best regarded as an administrative council of the baron and his tenants (a sort of parliament as stated), as well as a court of law, and might not try a serious crimminal case for decades, if ever.
Barons did not have to personally attend their own court (except possibly in criminal matters) and day-to-day functions were often delegated to court officials, such as a baron baillie, a baron sergeand and a dempster.
