From 1906-10, Edward served in Parliament representing Salisbury, and From 1908-20 was Lord Loeutenant for county Peebles.
He was raised to the Peerage as Baron Glenconner, of Glen, county Peebles, on 3 April 1911.
His eldest son having been killed in action in 1916, Tennant was succeeded by his second son, Christopher Grey (later Sir), as 2nd Baron.
