Baron arrived at the Miami Herald in January 2000 — and, almost immediately, young Elián González washed up on the shores, his mother dead, and was taken in by his relatives.
Under Baron’s direction, the Herald conducted its own recount of the " undervote " — that is, of the ballots that appeared to contain no presidential vote — and determined that George W. Bush was, indeed, the winner by a narrow margin.
Though Baron, in his limited public comments, has insisted that he decided to come to the Globe for no reason other than to move to a bigger paper, there’s little question that he’s getting out of Miami while the getting is good.

Again, trails and greenways serve this need for park access well, touching twice as many homes as traditional parks. -Natural Environment: Clean air and water are high amenity values for Smart Growth communities, as are “sense of place” and history.
Trails and greenways serve all these uses: (1) as non-motorized transportation routes with zero air pollution, (2) as buffer zones for highway run-off alongside streams and rivers, and (3) as historic corridors where rail and canal commerce once thrived.
Also, the ability of connected trail and greenway systems to attract growth--to act as magnets drawing people back to urban centers or creating mixed-use neighborhoods--is much higher if they are designed and created as systems. Smart Growth advocates today talk about the 3 D’s of a balanced transportation system-design, density and diversity.
