Telegraph | News | Lord Latymer
The 8th Lord Latymer, who has died aged 77, was a scion of the Coutts banking dynasty but broke away from City life to sail to Australia, help develop the Caribbean island of Mustique and finally become an expert in Mediterranean gardening.
The Latymer barony dated from 1431, when it was created for Sir George Nevill, a son of the first Earl of Westmorland, of whom Burke's Peerage recorded that he "went mad by 11 June 1451, but remained only intermittently so since he went on being called to Parliament for another 18 years".
The fourth baron died without a male heir in 1577, and the title was in abeyance until 1912, when the Committee of Privileges of the House of Lords ruled, in the absence of other claimants, that it had passed through one of the fourth baron's daughters to Francis Burdett Thomas Money-Coutts.

Janus: The Papers of Oscar Browning
When Browning decided to settle in Italy, all his papers remained at his house in Bexhill.
In February 1916 his old pupil and friend Francis Money-Coutts, 5th Baron Latymer, removed such parts as he thought would be of use for a projected biography and placed them in Coutts' Bank in London.
When Latymer died in 1923, the task of writing the biography devolved on Hugo Wortham, Browning's nephew and sole executor and legatee, and in 1925 he removed the papers from Coutts' Bank for this purpose.

GLOSSARY - BURKE'S GUIDE TO BRITISH TITLES
The earliest impeachment known was that of the 3rd/4th Lord (Baron) Latimer (of Corby) in 1376 (see LATYMER), whose association with JOHN OF GAUNT had made him unpopular, and was a milestone in the rising power of the House of Commons, as was the frequent use of impeachment in the 17th century.
The baron would grant some of his lands as a knight's fee to a subtenant who in return had to serve on campaign under his feudal superior, though only for a fixed term.
The term peerage derives from the Latin word for equal (par) and to the extent that all peers with seats in the House have tended to be summoned to it irrespective of their relative rank, importance or wealth, the term still has some relevance.
