Lord Lisgar, PC The Right Honourable John Young, 1st Baron Lisgar, PC (August 31, 1807 – October 6, 1876) was the second Governor General of Canada.
In the interim, Lord Lisgar was the nominal Lieutenant Governor of the huge parcel of land.
Lady Lisgar re-married twice after Lord Lisgar's death on October 6, 1876, and died in Paris on July 19, 1895 at the age of 74.

Canada, was born at Bombay, India, on August 31, 1807, the eldest son of Sir William Young, first baronet, by his wife, Lucy, youngest daughter of Lieut.-Col. Charles Frederick.
He died at Lisgar House, Baillieborough, Ireland, on October 6, 1876.
He succeeded to his father's baronetcy on the death of the latter in 1848; he was created a G.C.M.G. in 1855, a K.C.B. in 1859, and a G.C.B. in 1868; and in 1870 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Lisgar of Lisgar and Baillieborough.

YOUNG, Sir John, Baron LISGAR, governor-general of Canada, born in the presidency of Bombay, British India, 31 August, 1807; died in Ireland, 6 October, 1876.
In 1870 his long public services were rewarded with a peerage, when he took the title of Baron Lisgar, and in the year following he was constituted lord lieutenant and custos rotulorum of the county of Cavan.
He was not a man given to much social display, but he was a constitutional student and a hard-working official, he had been trained in a severe school, and during his career in the Dominion he had opportunity for the exercise of his talent and knowledge of public affairs.

The son of Sir William Young, 1st Baronet, director of the East India company, John Young was educated at Eton and Corpus Christi, Oxford.
During his term in Canada, Lisgar took an active part in diffusing Canadian-American tensions created by the Red River Rebellion and the Fenian raids.
Although Lisgar was outspoken and independent, John A. MacDonald considered him the ablest governor general he had known.

Frederick, who succeeded as 5th Baron Dufferin and Clandeboye in the Irish peerage, was then receiving an uneven education at Eton College.
His patron, Prime Minister Lord John Russell, also smoothed Dufferin’s entrance (as an English peer, Baron Clandeboye, after the family’s Irish estate) into the House of Lords in 1850.
