Baron de Ros - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The title of Baron de Ros (pronounced "Roose") is the most ancient baronial title in the Peerage of England.
However, whenever a woman holds the title, the holder of the next-highest barony held by a man is known as the Premier Baron.
The title was originally held by the de Ros family until the death of the eleventh Baron in 1508, when it was inherited by his nephew, Sir George Manners.

When studying afresh the pedigree of the barons of Offaly, from whom sprang the great house of the earls of Kildare, and, more recently, the dukes of Leinster, I was at the outset puzzled to know how they first became entitled to lands in Offaly.
was the third baron of Offaly, and was succeeded in the barony by his son; and that Maurice FitzMaurice, who died in 1286, was never baron of Offaly at all.
Gerald FitzMaurice III, fourth baron of Offaly, while not yet quite of age, appears to have led his vassels in the army of the justiciar into Wales in 1283-4,1 at the time of the final conquest of that country.

As before, the attacking party continued to use their muskets, and as Lady Offaly was looking out of a window, a bullet happened to strike the wall near her; she immediately wiped the spot with her hankercheif, showing how little she cared for the attack of the enemy.

Hugh de Mortimer Baron of Wigmore was born 1108 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.
This nobleman was amongst the principal barons who took up arms against King John, and was appointed one of the twenty-five chosen to enforce the observance of Magna Carta.
But that year turned out an unlucky one for John, for the barons again refused to serve abroad, and the army he had was needed to put down a revolt in Wales; the Pope was threatening to demote him, and Philip Augustus was planning a massive invasion of England.
