121Mulberry, Mulberry, Mowbray   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Nigel was amongst the Barons who attended King Richard the Lionheart's coronation, and later, showing the same enthusiasm for the Crusades as his father, he died on the journey to Palestine, and was buried at sea in 1191.
Baron William de Mowbray was, we learn, "as short as a dwarf", and must have had considerable difficulty getting onto his horse fully armoured.
He sided with the crown in its ensuing struggle for power with disaffected barons, but all this took a heavy toll of his physical resources, and he died in 1266, being buried in the church of the Friard Preachers at Pontefract, Yorkshire.

 Stockwell
Stockwell was not, according to a groom who knew him in his last eight years, "...blessed with the best of tempers; indeed, he was a bit of a savage." He inherited this from his sire, "the slim and savage" The Baron (1842), whom Theobald had purchased after his retirement from the turf.
The Baron was a dark chestnut horse that had been bred in Ireland by Yorkshire-born George Watts, who was a veterinary surgeon in Dublin.
Lord Albert was created Baron Londesborough in 1850, the same year he purchased the ancient Londesborough estate in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

A Brief History of Melton Mowbray
While, thinking in today’s terms of the Borough of Melton, there would be the history of some 70 villages to consider, it is a less daunting task to address at least these five places.
Until the recent reform, this hamlet was part of the title to a seat in the House of Lords for the Irish Lord, Baron of Ponsonby of Sysonby.
Thorpe Arnold, with its Church of St Mary the Virgin (dating from 1200 A.D.) and Brentingby parish of St Mary's (from 14th century), were added to the Melton Parish only in 1958.

 Infantry Regiments Page
In 1797 a 5th Battalion of the 60th was raised under Baron Francis de Rottenburg, whose treatise on Riflemen and Light Infantry formed the basis of Moore's training.
This was the first British unit to be dressed in the green jacket and armed with the rifle in place of the smoothbore musket and it represented the first British attempt at developing specialised light infantry for the European battlefield.
After being evacuated at Dunkirk back to the UK, the Battalion reformed at Oxford on 6th June 1940 and was employed on coastal defence initially in the Wash area, and in 1941 in Kent where a number of casualties were sustained from enemy bombing.
