Vladimir Harkonnen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vladimir presumably proved to be the most promising candidate as he was eventually chosen over his younger half-brother Abulurd Harkonnen.
The Harkonnen army was massacred to the last man, almost all the 300,000 Imperial Sardaukar died, and Vladimir was poisoned by Alia Atreides, his own granddaughter, and took his last breath at the age of 83.
Frank Herbert's representation of the Baron Harkonnen portrays him as an imposing, powerful man. His eyes are described as "spider-like" and his voice a deep, rumbling basso with a style of dress often including a flowing robe and a collection of rings adorning large hands.

Abulard changed his name to Harkonnen after learning that his grandfather, Xavier Harkonnen's reputation was sullied by Jihad propaganda and that he was in fact a hero.

Baron is a specific title of nobility or a more generic feudal qualification.
At the end of Children of Dune Alia commits suicide, in part because she realizes the Baron has virtually surpassed her abilities to control him.
The original book suggests that the baron's weight is due to his overindulgent lifestyle, therefore, the disease "curse" in the Dune prequel is assumed to retcon this fact.

One of the great houses of the Imperium, the House Harkonnen is built on a simple foundation of fear and terror, two tactics that make the Baron Harkonnen's underlings that much more dangerous: risk death on the battlefield or suffer a slow, excruciating death in the Baron's chambers as he watches with relish.

Jessica Atreides - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jessica was conceived through the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen by Tanidia Nerus, and born to the Bene Gesserit in the year 10,154 after the formation of the Spacing Guild.
This daughter would be bred to Feyd-Rautha, nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and heir to House Harkonnen, healing the generations-old rift between House Atreides and House Harkonnen, and producing the Kwisatz Haderach for the Bene Gesserit.
The change of fief is a trap, however: shortly after committing themselves there, House Harkonnen invades with the tacit support of the Emperor (using the Emperor's Sardaukar disguised as Harkonnen soldiers); the betrayal of the Duke by the family's doctor, Dr. Wellington Yueh, completed the plan, and House Atreides is destroyed in place.

The Harkonnens' deep hatred for the Atreides stems from the fact that Bashar Abulurd Harkonnen was banished for treachery by an Atreides after the Battle of Corrin.
Baron Harkonnen is a man of questionable sexual leanings also, as he seems to favour young boys, including the na-Baron, Feyd-Rautha.
The Baron described him as "a muscle-minded tank brain" who squeezed the spice mining industry on Arrakis relentlessly, as the Baron planned for Feyd-Rautha to take over and be hailed as a benign hero by the people of Arrakis.

Hasimir Fenring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For this reason Fenring was frequently described as "the Emperor's errand boy" as Shaddam often deployed Fenring to deal with the most troublesome issues within the Empire.
Baron Vladimir Harkonnen described Fenring, during one such errand, as a "killer with the manners of a rabbit." He was also, strangely, known to have seduced both women and men to his own personal advantage, before meeting his Bene Gesserit wife.
Although known to be one of the deadliest duelists in the Imperium, Fenring's fearsome reputation in his youth really stemmed from the rumour of his assassination of Shaddam's father in order to place his old friend on the Imperial throne.

Feyd is famed for his prowess in single combat, and his willingness to break the formal rules of "kanly" that in the universe of Dune govern this type of challenge, by using poison on his weaponry.

And yes, Harkonnen should probably be fatter and more loathesome, but I had to work with the materials I was given: Zygote's 'fat man' model is only intended to represent the average obese American male, not a hideously bloated and corrupt nobleman from some future interstellar empire.
