ZOUCHE, or Zoucx, the name of an English family descended from Alan la Zouche, a Breton, who is sometimes called Alan de Porrhoet.
His grandson, another Alan la Zouche, was justice of Chester and justice of Ireland under Henry III.; he was loyal to the king during the struggle with the barons, fought at Lewes and helped to arrange the peace of Kenilworth.
Zouche left no sons, and the barony remained in abeyance among the descendants of his two daughters until 1815, when the abeyance was terminated in favour of Sir Cecil Bisshopp, Bart.

The title Baron Zouche of Haryngworth is an ancient one in the Peerage of England, having been created in 1308 by writ for William la Zouche (1276-1352) His grandson William la Zouche, 2nd Baron Zouche (1321-1382) was himself summoned to parliament during his grandfather's lifetime in 1348 as Baron Zouche of Mortimer.
In 1625, upon the death of the eleventh Baron, the title fell into abeyance.
The first baron was the grandson of Alan de la Zouche (~1136-1190), a Breton who had settled in England during the reign of Henry II, Alan obtained Ashby in Leicestershire (called after him Ashby-de-la-Zouch) by his marriage.

Roger La Zouche [25] was born in 1240-42 and married Ela, daughter of Stephen Longspee, 3rd son of William Longspee, Earl of Salisbury, by Emeline, daughter of Walter de Ridelisford, Lord of Bray. Ela Longspee was great-grandaughter of Henry II, King of England.

Edward la Zouche, (6 June 1556 - 18 August 1625) 11th Baron Zouche of Haryngworth, was the son of George la Zouche, 10th Baron Zouche and his wife Margaret, née Welby.
He was a Royal Ward from 1570, matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge in Easter 1570, M.A. 1571; admitted Gray’s Inn, 1575; and a Commissioner for the trial of Mary, Queen of Scots, at Fotheringhay, October 1586.
There were no children of this marriage, and on his death the Barony of Zouche fell into abeyance between his daughter Mary and the heirs of his daughter Elizabeth, the abeyance being terminated in 1815 in favor of Sir Cecil Bisshopp, 12th Baron Zouche.
