The Barred Buttonquail (Turnix suscitator) is a buttonquail, one of a small family of birds which resemble, but are unrelated to, the true quails.
Some buttonquail are notoriously difficult to see, but this species is quite easy, since it tends to cross, or run along, savannah tracks, and is readily viewed from a vehicle.
Barred Buttonquail has a grey bill and legs, and is heavily barred fl on the upperparts and breast.

The buttonquails or hemipodes are a small family of birds which resemble, but are unrelated to, the true quails.
Buttonquail were traditionally placed in Gruiformes or Phasianidae (the crane and pheasant orders), but the Sibley-Ahlquist taxonomy elevated them to ordinal status as the Turniciformes.
This is an Old World group, which inhabits warm grasslands.
