The situation on the frontier of Pennsylvania was not conducive to Euro-American settlement.
A portion of Barree Township and Bedford Township, lying to the west of Tussey Mountain and between it and the Allegheny Mountain range defined Blair County to the north and Bedford County to the south.
Seven townships created within Cumberland County prior to the erection of Bedford County, along with one township created within Huntingdon County after it was erected out of Bedford County (Allegheny), and one township created within Somerset County after it was erected out of Bedford County (Cambria) comprised the area that is Old~Bedford County.

 Brady Township Information
Brady is one of the border townships of the county, situated north of the Juniata River.
West and northwest is the township of Henderson, and on the north is Miller township.
The ore was chiefly brought from Franklin township by canal and later by railroad, although a quantity of the fossil ores found in Brady were combined with them, producing a metal which had a most excellent reputation among manufacturers, and which was used to a large extent to produce imitation Russia sheet iron.

This township, as will be noticed by reference to Chapter III., was formed by the Cumberland County Court at October sessions, 1767, and then embraced all of the area of Huntingdon County west of Jack's Mountain and Sideling Hill and the greater portion of Blair County.
Within the limits of this township is located one of the tracts reserved by the proprietaries of the province for their own use.
The township contains several fine school buildings, and all the old houses are being gradually displaced by a better class of buildings, which are equal to those in other parts of the county.

The township that retained the name of Bedford extended from the vicinity of the present-day town of Osterburg northward to roughly the middle of present-day Blair County.
The southern boundary of Frankstown Township was placed on a line lying basically at the northern edge of the present-day Bedford County townships of King and Lincoln.
The accompanying illustration is a reproduction of the survey of Greenfield Township which was filed in the Bedford County Court of Quarter Sessions in November, 1798.

Corresponding to the spurs of the ridge are spurs in Tussey mountain; and between the two sets of spurs, in the broad valley of Shaver’s creek and the heads of Mill creek, sweeps the zigzagged outcrop of the fossil iron ore beds of No. V, mined at Greenwood furnace in Jackson Township.
The gorge of Little Trough Creek, splitting Rocky Ridge at the north end of the East Broad-Top coal basin, is one of the most picturesque bits of scenery in the State, and is of considerable geological importance.
