Barren Island, was originally an island off the southern end of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, in Jamaica Bay just opposite the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.
The island housed a plant that rendered horse bones (supplied from the streets of New York City, and others) into glue, which activity inspired the name Dead Horse Bay to the still extant water body on the western shore.
Mill Basin/ Mill Island is a neighborhood in southeastern Brooklyn lying along Jamaica Bay and bounded to the north by Avenue U, and to the east, south, and west by the Mill Basin/ Mill Island Inlet.

A new eruption at Barren Island was first noticed by the Indian Navy on 20 December 1994.
A team composed of scientists from the Geological and Zoological surveys of India arrived at the island early on 24 January, and an aerial survey over the volcano was made on the 31st.
Megascopically the lava was basaltic andesite, similar to that erupted during September 1991, with a high percentage of large plagioclase phenocrysts and frequent olivine in a dark-gray glassy groundmass.

Both projects, which would be similar to the government's restoration of Poplar Island, are expected to attract a vast array of wildlife, including eagles, terrapins and great blue herons.
The agencies embarked on a plan to restore Poplar to its original footprint of 1,140 acres, hoping that the island would become a welcome mat for fish and birds that are getting pushed out of mainland habitats by development pressures and natural predators.

I would be interested to know if the animal life of the island is in jeopardy.No human beings ever lived there but the vegetation of the island camouflages a population of goats,jungle fowls and some unknown birds.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are situated on an undersea fault that continues to nearby Indonesia.
