| | Eye - BOOKS: ed. Barry Callaghan -- This Ain't No Healin Town - 03.07.96 (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05) |
 | | Brought together by Barry (son of Morley) Callaghan, the collection seems bent on proving the existence the dark side of our civic psyche, and hauls out racial and religious tension, graphic lesbian sex, madness, poverty, suicide and necrophilia to make its point. |
 | | Callaghan's own "The Cohen In Cowan" is one of the book's real gems, although his "A Kiss Is Still A Kiss," taken from his new novel of the same title, made me glad I didn't get the whole book to review. |
 | | One is left with the impression that world-class violence, sexual heterogeneity, existential despair and literary output notwithstanding, Toronto's dark side might actually be its entrenched conservatism. |
