James Barry Munnik Hertzog, better known as Barry Hertzog, (1866-1942) was Prime Minister of South Africa from 1924 to 1939.
Hertzog was a republican who believed strongly in promoting the independence of the Union of South Africa from the British Empire.
Hertzog was a South African general, and in 1907-10 Attorney-General and Director of Education in the Orange River Colony.

Hertzog was the eighth child of Johannes Albertus Munnik Hertzog, a descendant of a German immigrant, Johann Barthold Hertzog, and Susanna Maria Jacoba Hamman.
Subsequently, Hertzog became one of the signatories to the peace treaty of Vereeniging at Melrose House in Pretoria.
Hertzog and M. Steyn went to London in 1909 as members of the South African delegation to observe the South African Act being piloted through the British Parliament.

Hertzog was at first inclined to appease Hitler, favoring a return of German colonial territories, but he advocated neutrality in World War II.

Barry Lyndon is another sign of sheer genius on behalf of Kubrick.
This movie is one of his better detailed (and yet mysteriously unsung) masterpieces that is so beautiful to look at that it almost becomes artistic pornography (in the sense of creating intense emotion).
The biggest irony about Barry Lyndon would have to be that everyone in the categories EXCEPT Kubrick won an Oscar for their work.
