Horne said his aim was to persuade the British government to hold a public inquiry into animal-testing practices in the UK, something the Labour Party had promised to do when it came to power in 1997.
Horne was convicted of six charges of arson and attempted arson at Bristol Crown Court in December 1997.
Horne's aim during the second hunger strike was that the new Labour government withdraw all animal testing licences within an agreed timeframe.

Barry Horne passed away Monday morning November 5th due to liver failure after being on a hunger strike in prison since October 21st.
Barry was serving an 18-year prison sentence (the longest prison sentence ever given to an animal rights activist) for a two-year animal rights campaign that included using arson as a tactic.
Horne, who married twice, leaves behind two children and a grandchild, and thousands of supporters.
